The whole 'diversity on the school board' thing was a major political failure for Ulman. One he quickly followed up with another disaster involving a zoning/right of way issue near Kendall's Hardware in Clarksville. Better luck this year, bro!

I'd like to know why, despite HoCo task forces, commissions, an entire "Howard County BRAC Office" that costs taxpayers a bundle, there is no plan to help ease roadway congestion or otherwise improve traffic on 295, MD 32, MD 29, etc. caused by BRAC / Ft. Meade growth. These roadways are jammed during rush hours every day and yet, after YEARS of talking, planning, spending $ talking and planning, NOTHING is happening to increase road capacity. Common sense alone (no need for million dollar traffic studies, folks!) would say DO SOMETHING already!

One thing Patch editors were talking about at our news meeting this morning: Will there be anyone out at the forum to talk about utilities? Ken Ulman was recently among a group of county executives that wrote a letter to the Public Service Commission saying utility companies should improve performance. http://ellicottcity.patch.com/articles/county-execs-to-psc-utilities-must-give-us-data

I would love to know why the only affordable new construction housing in premium Ellicott City locations like Ilchester Rd, Thistle Rd, College Ave, Newcut Road, etc., is only for 55+. Luxury villas in the lower 300s. If, as they county sometimes claims, it's because of school overcrowding, why are there a multitude of 500K+ homes that are available for families with kids in the same neighborhoods? I asked several folks in HoCo government that question and not one has a reasonable answer. HoCo reps even went so far as to suggest that the builders make these decisions, not the county. So great, make the most affordable housing in fantastic locations available to those who can most afford more. As an under 55, why aren't the same housing options available to me, in the same areas? Is there even one single comp to the Luxury Villas on College Avenue available anywhere in the giant, sprawling construction zone that is now College Avenue? Even one unit? No.

How timely for this to be published on The Patch at midnight the same day as the forum. Sadly, I cannot help but wonder if this was intentionally done by the Ulman camp or The Patch to limit the number of people that might not drink the Blue Kool-Aid and would have too many opposing viewpoints for their liking. If this was nothing more than poor reporting of the news by The Patch then I am really not all that surprised but if this really was intentionally published the same day as the forum then heads should roll but we all know they will be praised not punished for their misdeeds.

Hi JustABill, I'm not sure why the time stamp on that post says midnight. We've been featuring the forum on our sites since last week and in our newsletters. I brought it out today to remind people again that it was going on. If you don't already, make sure to subscribe to a Patch newsletter - go to http://ellicottcity.patch.com/newsletters Thanks for your comment and do keep giving us feedback on our coverage and what you like to read. Thanks, Lisa Rossi, Associate Regional Editor

Funny I did not get the reminder until today as well. However, I would like to know about the over development and the crime it has brought with it. I moved away from 108 and 175 because of this. ken supposedly ran on the platform of NOT over developing HoCo. Funny it seems like that's all there is lately. And I agree with an earlier poster about the 55+ please dont tell me that HoCo doesnt influence that.

I have to add that I am deeply disappointed in Ken (and crew). He just seems like a sell out at this juncture. All this over development without proper infrastructure has caused more problems than good. Not enough police, improper road control, etc...

Greg - I agree with you entirely. I have witnessed our county decline exponentially with overdevelopment. What happened to his environmental protection platform? Pushed aside to permit even more crazy infill development on College Avenue. And crime? I'm actually afraid to take a walk on my street after 7 pm. Trash lined streets, graffiti covered park entrances. Is this Ellicott City? Who's choosing civility now?

Ulman's sound bite being blasted all over the county annoys me. "with every tragedy like Aurora we redouble our efforts". Is that like rolling the dice two times each turn in Monopoly so you can get around the board faster and buy more properties? A better answer would be we are doing everything humanly possible within our budget to prepare so we can keep our citizens safe every night!
