MD vs. VA on 'Meet the Press' This Sunday

O'Malley and McDonnell to face off on the economy, the tone of the presidential race.

 

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is scheduled to debate Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Meet the Press on NBC on Sunday.

The tone of the presidential campaign and the state of the economy will be up for discussion with host David Gregory

Maryland’s unemployment rate increased one-tenth of 1 percent to 7 percent between June and July, according to a preliminary . The number of unemployed Marylanders increased to 215,300 in July, up from 211,700 in June.

Virginia recorded a 0.2 percent month-to-month increase in its unemployment rate, which stands at 5.9 percent, according to the preliminary numbers. The number of unemployed Virginians increased to 254,400 in July, up from 246,400 in June.

But, Virginia was second among states adding the most jobs, with 21,300 jobs added, a 0.6 percent increase.

The national average unemployment rate of 8.3 percent was essentially unchanged.

O’Malley (D) and McDonnell (R) are chairmen of the governors associations of their respective parties.

In the Washington market, Meet the Press is broadcast at 10:30 a.m. on NBC4 and at noon on WTNT Radio 730 AM.
