Howard County's Snow Plow Tracker 'Frequently' Misses Mark, Officials Say

'It is possible ... that your road has been marked as 'plowed' when that is not the case...' —Howard County Government

Citizens have been watching the Howard County snow plow tracker, awaiting the moment they will be cleared for takeoff from their neighborhoods.

However, the tool is not an exact science, county officials said this week, after there were several let-downs for area residents tracking the plows' progress.

"It is possible ... that your road has been marked as 'plowed' when that is not the case, and we have received information that this is happening frequently with this weather event," Howard County Government reported Friday.

"This most often occurs when a plow is clearing an intersecting road and heads a few feet onto your road to clear the intersection, triggering the update. If that happens and your road is marked as cleared, it does NOT mean that the crews consider it cleared," the report stated.

Officials said that plow drivers use "zone maps" and will be sure to reach every street.
