Columbia Association President Phil Nelson Leaving

CA's board of directors is looking for someone that will be more active in the community.

Phil Nelson will step down as Columbia Association's president.

CA announced its decision late Friday with a terse press release that said the board of directors thanked Nelson for his work. The board imposed a deadline of April 30 to find a new president.

The Howard County Times reported that the board is looking for someone who is more involved in the community.

CA credited Nelson with passing master plans for aquatics, bike pathways, and for the development of Symphony Woods as well as guiding the replacement of the Hobbit's Glen Clubhouse and planning the new fitness center at the former Rouse building.

CA has retained the executive search firm DHR to assist in finding a new president.

Nelson was paid about $262,000 in 2011, according to salary information released by Columbia Association.
