Blue State Politics: Are You Better Off?

Politicians on both sides of the aisle are asking constituents whether voters are better off now than they were four years ago. We want to know what Maryland thinks.

It’s a seemingly simple question being asked across the land by Democrats and Republicans alike: Are you better off than you were four years ago?

The answer is likely to have a big impact when people go to the polls in November for national and local elections.

It was a question that Ronald Reagan first asked to great effect in his debate with Jimmy Carter in 1980. (Check out the second clip in the accompanying YouTube video.)

Then, as now, the economy was struggling and a Democrat was seeking re-election.

We want to know what Maryland thinks. Are you better off than you were four years ago? What has changed to make your answer true for you? Let us know in the comments section.

I think I'm better off now! Went from renting in DC to owning my first home in Maryland. Most days I think this is an upgrade, except when Metro, the crime blotter, or stories about crazy neighbors make me think otherwise. :/ Obama all the way!

Well, it is a NO brainer that you can afford a home now. The money you were spending on rent in DC was probably double of what your house payment is. With that being said, under the previous run democrat majority congress w/ stretch pelosi, they managed to ruin the economy with Obama at the helm. Houses are not worth what they were previously, my home is worth $120K less that it was preObama, my retirement funds and investments are down 38%, interest rates are at an all time low, but gas is still up, cost of living is up, food prices are up, utilities are up, numbers of uemployment are up STILL, number of people on welfare is up 45%, coal industry is being devastated and more people will be out of work and on unemployment, more of our tax dollars are going to Mexico and South America AND YOU are concerned about your crazy neighbors???? But then again you must be a liberal and think only about yourself. Just like you want redistribution (since you want obama again) but what are you going to say when he wants more of your income in taxes, which he already has a plan for. Get the facts before you make irrational statements.

But Marina, the left does NOT want to hear the REAL truth of what is going on. They live a rosey world because they STILL feel that Obama is going to pay for everything for them one day...maybe they think they have 72 vestal virgins waithing for them, but what do the leftie women have waiting for them, have you ever wondered> Maybe it is camels? Who knows what they think, it is ALWAYS IRRATIONAL THOUGHTS ANYWAY. hERE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE ON HOW THESE PEOPLE THINK http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpCHvHWUAvw AND THEY ARE still WAITING http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI

NOT REALLY FRANKIEGIRL...You are using the leftie calculator. Sure the dow is up, but that is the guys making stuff, but when you look at the transportation average, it is way down. Guys are making stuff but not as much is being shipped, why? Because people are not spending like they were...your facts are just pure nonsense and made up by you people. Get the real facts. BTW, at least I have made much more than you will dream of and have money to invest, instead of living from government paycheck to government paycheck You are a horses butt frankiegirl. Again you have made yourself out the fool.
