Allan Kittleman, R-West Friendship, Resigns From State GOP Leadership Role
The senator is giving up his position as minority leader after proposing a bill to create civil unions.
Allan Kittleman is resigning as state Senate minority leader after fellow Republican senators expressed concern over his introduction of a bill that would create civil unions in Maryland.
In an interview with the Baltimore Sun, Kittleman, whose district includes parts of Howard and Carroll Counties, said it was more important for him to stay true to his beliefs than to be the minority leader.
Kittleman said the party had not asked him to leave the position, which he has held for two years, but that the decision was his alone.
