The 22-year-old was in cardiac arrest when he was found, Howard County officials said.

A man rescued from the Patapsco River was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Sunday afternoon near the Carroll-Howard County line, officials said.

Before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, first responders were called for a swift water rescue in Marriottsville, according to a statement from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

When crews arrived, a 22-year-old man was partially submerged in slow-moving water approximately 100 yards down a path off Henryton Road, the statement said.

Firefighters went into the water to rescue the victim, who was in cardiac arrest, according to the report.

After performing CPR, paramedics took the man to Howard County General Hospital, where he had life-threatening injuries, the report said.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is reportedly handling the investigation.
