A two-alarm fire swept through a log cabin style house in Dayton early Sunday morning, destroying the home and displacing five residents, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Firefighters were dispatched to the home around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 to the house in the 5000 block of Ten Oaks Road. Due to the size of the fire and its rural location, about 1,500 feet off the main road, the firefighters had to call in additional manpower and water tankers to the scene, according to fire department spokesperson Adam Nolder.
It took about 50 firefighters an hour to control the fire, according to Nolder.
Five adults were at the home at the time of the fire, but were not injured, said Nolder. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to the fire department.
