Two Killed in Sunday's Fatal Collision, 8-Year-Old Seriously Injured

Maryland State police have released more information Tuesday on the fatal crash Sunday officials originally said killed one woman and seriously injured a child.

Officials said Tuesday that two people were killed in the accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 North near Waterloo Road in Columbia after a three-car collision.

On Monday, a state police spokesperson told Patch there was one confirmed fatality: Sadia Soto, 31, of Arlington VA., was killed after being trapped in a Toyota 4Runner that was engulfed in flames.

On Tuesday, Patch spoke with Sgt. Anthony Riley of the state police's Waterloo Barracks, who said Limberg Olivera, 36, of Alexandria VA, was also killed in the accident.

An 8-year-old child was seriously injured and transported to Johns Hopkins shock trauma center in Baltimore after the accident. Police did not comment on the current condition of the child.

Riley provided additional details of the deadly accident. He said Soto, Olivera, the child and another man, Jesus Olivera, also of Alexandria, were driving a 1997 Toyota 4Runner on Interstate 95 North at approximately 5:55 a.m. when the trailer they were pulling became disengaged. 

At that time, Limberg Olivera exited the 4Runner, which they had stopped in lane three of I-95, to attempt to fix the trailer, according to Riley. After exiting, Olivera was struck by a 2010 Acura TL, driven by Mary Kozma-Fornaro of Glen Allen, VA, killing him, according to Riley.

Shortly after, the 4Runner was struck by a 2011 Jeep driven by Wilbur Irick of Laurel, according to Riley. This collision caused both the Jeep and the 4Runner to become fully engulfed in flames, according to a police statement. Soto, who was inside the 4Runner, was unable to escape, but the 8-year-old child was extracted from the vehicle by Jesus Olivera and Irick, according to Riley.

Riley said the accident is currently under investigation and any decision to press charges likely won't be released for at least another 30 days. He said the speed of the vehicles involved in the accident had not been determined.
