Traffic and Delays expected in Columbia Saturday for Virgin Mobile Freefest

Howard County police warn of congestion around Merriweather Post Pavilion and the Mall in Columbia as the concert is expected to draw up to 30,000.

Traffic may clog roads around Saturday due to Virgin Mobile’s FreeFest concert.

According to the Howard County police, motorists are expected to encounter delays and congestion around the concert venue and the , as the concert is expected to draw a crowd of 30,000. The police department said motorists should plan ahead when driving in the area.

Police will be directing traffic starting at 10 a.m. Saturday on Little Patuxent Parkway, Brokenland Parkway, South Entrance Road and Hickory Ridge Road, but those roads may also be closed temporarily at times to control traffic. Full access to the mall and surrounding areas will still be available.

Virgin Mobile FreeFest, a free concert featuring 19 different musical acts, begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
