Three Robberies in Columbia, Including One Pizza Delivery Driver: Howard County Crime Roundup

A sampling of crime reported in Columbia and around Howard County.

Harper’s Choice: Robbery

A pizza delivery driver robbed Sunday evening in Harper’s Choice was the 10th robbery of a food delivery driver in the area since December.

This driver was on the 5500 block of Woodenhawk Circle when he realized that the address he’d been called to did not actually exist. That’s when two people came up to him, assaulted him and stole his wallet and the food, police said.

The driver was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for a non-life-threatening head injury.

One suspect was described as a black male with a thin build, approximately 6-feet tall, with a beard and a mustache, and wearing blue jeans.

The other suspect was described as a black female with shoulder-length hair and wearing a light T-shirt and jeans.

The robbery was reported at 8:35 p.m.

The other recent food delivery driver robberies – all but one of which have been in Columbia – were:

  • On Dec. 18, a pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint on the 4900 block of Blue Wing Court. 
  • On Jan. 11, a man working as a delivery driver for a Chinese food restaurant was robbed at knifepoint on the 7500 block of Weather Worn Way. 
  • On Jan. 27, a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on the 9400 block of Macomber Lane.
  • On Feb. 11, a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on the 9600 block of Whiteacre Road.
  • On Feb. 13, a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on the 6600 block of Downdale Place.
  • On March 8, a pizza delivery driver was robbed on the 5400 block of Harpers Farm Road.
  • On March 8 in Laurel, a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on the 9000 block of Stebbing Way.
  • On March 26, a pizza delivery driver was assaulted and robbed on the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place.
  • On March 30, a pizza delivery driver was robbed, once again on the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place. 

Owen Brown: Robbery

A person was depositing cash at a Bank of America on the 7100 block of Cradlerock Way when two men approached, showed a knife and stole the money. The suspects fled on foot. The robbery was reported at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. 

Owen Brown: Robbery

A woman walking on a pathway near the 7200 block of Dockside Lane was approached by two men, who pushed her and then stole her purse. The robbery was reported at 7:26 p.m. on Friday, April 8.

Harper’s Choice: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen after a break-in at a residence on the 5500 block of Harpers Farm Road. The suspect or suspects got inside after forcing open a front door. The break-in happened sometime between 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, and 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11. 

Owen Brown: Break-in

Little information was provided about a break-in at Dakota Imaging Inc. on the 7100 block of Minstrel Way. The break-in was reported at 1:20 p.m. on Monday, April 11. 

Ellicott City: Burglary

Cash and credit cards were stolen from a home on the 3600 block of Folly Quarter Road. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked garage and then by breaking a lock on a door into the house. The burglary happened sometime between 10:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 11. 

Ellicott City: Burglary

Two laptops, a television and a camera were stolen from a residence on the 4000 block of Choctaw Drive. The suspect or suspects stole the victim’s keys and vehicles from elsewhere, then drove to the victim’s home and used the keys to get inside the house. The burglary happened sometime between 9:15 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, April 10.

Ellicott City: Burglary

Jewelry, a camera and accessories were stolen from a residence on the 6400 block of Sunderland Drive. The suspect or suspects got inside by forcing open a window. The burglary happened sometime between 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9. 

Ellicott City: Break-in (with arrest)

An 18-year-old “known suspect” was arrested Saturday night after allegedly forcing his or her way inside a home on the 3500 block of Mount Ida Drive. The suspect allegedly pushed past the victim at a rear door, assaulted the victim and then refused to leave.

Antonio Freeman has been charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree assault and trespassing, according to police.

The incident was reported at 10:17 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. 

Elkridge: Burglary/Vehicle thefts

Two trucks were stolen following a burglary at Don’s Paving and Hauling on the 6000 block of Race Road. The vehicles were recovered elsewhere. The burglary and thefts happened sometime between 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, and 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 10. 

Elkridge: Burglary (with arrest)

A Laurel man was arrested following a burglary at Peri Formwork Systems on the 7100 block of Dorsey Run Road.

Police were called to the business at about 1:56 a.m. on Monday, April 11, after a witness saw someone inside the property throwing items over a fence. As officers arrived, they saw the suspect loading aluminum floor jacks into a vehicle, police said. 

Donald Ray Snook, 51, of 319 Compton Ave., is facing charges relating to burglaries at the business on April 8 and April 11. He’s been charged with two counts each of second- and third-degree burglary, three counts of fourth-degree burglary, three counts of theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Jessup: Burglary

Firearms and jewelry were stolen from a residence on the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked window. The burglary happened sometime between Monday, April 4, and 8:10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9.

Jessup: Burglary

Copper wiring was stolen from a business on the 8200 block of Patuxent Range Road. The suspect or suspects got inside after tampering with a rear door lock. The burglary happened sometime between Friday, April 8, and Monday, April 11. 

Vehicle thefts: Columbia, Laurel 

- Columbia: A white and red Yamaha R6 was stolen from the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place. It was reported stolen at 9:57 a.m. on Friday, April 8.

- Columbia: A blue 2008 Acura TSX was stolen from the 9700 block of Clocktower Lane, It was reported stolen at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, April 8.

- Columbia: A green Acura was stolen from the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway. It was reported stolen at 4:59 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.

- Laurel: A black 1999 Nissan Sentra with no tags was stolen from the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard. It was reported stolen at 12:31 p.m. on Monday, April 11.
