Three Daytime Door Kick-in Burglaries in Columbia: Howard County Crime Reports

Crimes reported between Nov. 13 and Nov. 20. All information was provided by the Howard County Police Department.

Columbia


Residential burglary - daytime door kick-ins

Two residences in the 7200 block of Harbor Lane, near the Owen Brown Village Center, were broken into by someone who kicked in the front doors. In one residence, money, watches and jewelry were reported stolen on Nov. 18 sometime between 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The second residence broken into is believed to be vacant, said police, but pillows and blankets were found on the floor. Nothing was reported stolen from that residence.

Residential burglary - door kick-in

Someone kicked-in the front door of a residence in the 6900 block of Spinning Seed around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 and stole jewelry and ransacked the master bedroom.

Residential burglary - rifle stolen

A rifle and laptop were reported stolen from a residence in the 5600 block of Mirrorlight Place sometime during the evening of Nov. 13. Police did not find any signs of force entry.

Commercial burglary

Someone forcibly entered Syntonic LLC in the 9100 block of Red Branch Road and stole laptops sometime between Nov. 17 and Nov. 18. Police found pry marks on the front door.

Residential burglary - bike stolen

A bicycle was stolen from a garage that was left open overnight in the 10800 block of Symphony Way on Nov. 15 to Nov. 16.

Residential burglary - gaming system stolen

An electronic gaming system and games were stolen from a residence in the 6000 block of Jerry's Drive on Nov. 18. Police said someone entered through an unsecured front door.

Commercial burglary

Someone broke into a pediatricians' office in the 9500 block of Old Annapolis Road by forcing open the front office door sometime overnight on Nov. 15 to Nov. 16. Inside, a laptop and two computers were stolen.

Commercial breaking and entering

A glass window pane was removed from a chiropractor's office in the 9500 block of Old Annapolis Road sometime over the weekend. Tool marks were found on the window pane, but police didn't report anything stolen.

Residential burglary

A large amount of jewelry was reported stolen from an apartment in the 3300 block of Oak West Drive sometime between Nov. 11 and Nov. 15. Police did not find any signs of forced entry.

Commercial vandalism

A side glass window pane was shattered at the Shell Gas Station in the 5600 block of Waterloo Road around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 15. Police said no entry was gained to the business.

Burglary - Reservoir High School, arrests made

Police arrested four 22-year-old men with burglary and trespassing after finding them in the parking lot of Reservoir High School. An officer observed that the concession stand was open and one of the windows was ajar. After an investigation it was determined the men took candy, ice cream bars, and frozen hot dogs from the stand.

Residential burglary - ATV stolen

An ATV was stolen from a garage in teh 12000 block of Lime Kiln Road sometime overnight between Nov. 18 and Nov. 19.

Commercial burglary - items recovered

Spray paint, bolt cutters and a cooler were reported stolen from a maintenance shop in the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road. Police said someone entered through an unlocked garage door sometime between Nov. 15 and Nov. 18. A canvass of the area located the items beneath the overpass at Route 175 and the railroad tracks.

Residential burglary - jewelry stolen

Someone pried open the front door of a residence in the 8100 block of Hicks Road during the afternoon of Nov. 12 and stole jewelry.

Robbery - friend may have set up friend

Two friends were staying in a hotel room at the Extended Stay Hotel in the 8500 block of Washington Blvd. When one of them woke up, an unknown man was standing over the bed and took the person's money and cell phone. The person ran after the man, but police reported the man used "an electronic control device" to stop him. Undeterred, the person continued to pursue the man as he left the hotel and entered a vehicle. Inside the vehicle, the victim saw the friend sitting in the front passenger's seat. The victim said the possible suspect tried to run him over with the vehicle.

Residential burglary

A resident found his garage door open after securing it the night before on the morning of Nov. 12. Four motorcycle helmets and 28 golf clubs were reported stolen from the residence in the 6500 block of Abel Street.

Scrapper spotted

Police responding to a business alarm found a man removing scrap aluminum from a dumpster in the 9300 block of Washington Blvd. around 11:45 p.m. on Nov. 17.


West Friendship


Commercial burglary - High's

Someone stole cigarette boxes from High's in the 12700 block of Frederick Road overnight on Nov. 16 after the front doors were left unlatched. Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 30, 5-foot-6, thin, wearing a dark hoodie.

Residential burglary

Prescription narcotics and jewelry were reported stolen from a residence in the 13000 block of Fredrick Road on Nov. 14. Police said someone broke in through an unlocked front door.

Marriottsville


Construction site burglary

Someone cut the lock off a storage container at a construction site in the 2000 block of Marriottsville Road and stole a generator overnight on Nov. 11 to Nov. 12.
