Two businesses and a home in Columbia were burglarized last week, according to police.
At about 8:20 a.m. on Friday, police say a suspect smashed the front door of Oak Tree Furniture, on the 9100 block of Red Branch Road, with a concrete stone. The suspect took money from one register, and stole a second one. Police say the second register was stolen because the suspect could not open it.
Police say a suspect used a brick to smash the front glass door of Tropical Tan on the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road at 11 p.m. Thursday night. The victim reported coins stolen.
Suspects entered a screened-in porch on the 5000 block of Whetstone Road on Sunday between 1:45 and 9 p.m., according to police, then kicked open a back door to the house. Once inside, police say the suspect stole jewelry, a laptop computer, portable DVD player and coins.
Two businesses and one home in Ellicott City were burglarized in the past few days, according to the Howard County police department, and one potential residential burglar may have been scared off.
Sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, suspects broke into a fenced-in construction site at the Walmart on the 3200 bock of North Ridge Road by breaking a chain, according to police. The store reported tools and plywood stolen.
On Monday morning at about 4:45 a.m., someone used a large rock to break the front glass door at Bon Appetit Café on the 10100 block of Baltimore National Pike, according to police. The victims reported money stolen from the store.
Police also report a burglary at a home on the 4900 block of Clearwater Drive on Friday. Sometime between 9 and 11:20 p.m., someone stole a laptop computer and a tablet. Police said there was no sign of forced entry and the victim said the back door may have been unlocked.
A barking dog may have thwarted an attempted burglary Sunday morning. The dog started barking at about 4:15 a.m. at a home on the 2900 block of Country Lane. The owner reported awaking and hearing a noise that sounded like someone was trying to open the front door. The owner and his son went to the front door; the son told police he saw a man quickly walking away from the house.
Police report the front door of a home on the 7200 block of Darby Downs was tampered with on Sunday at about 9:30 a.m.
Suspects used some kind of tool to force open the back door of Chopstixx Cafe, on the 7600 block of Montgomery Road, sometime between Thursday night and 10 a.m. Friday, according to police. The victims reported two small cash registers and a small safe stolen.
Police say unknown suspect smashed a glass window on the front of a house on the 12200 block of Wake Forest Road on Friday between 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. The suspect reached through the broken window, unlocked the front door, entered the home and stole jewelry, according to police.
