Smoke Smell on Twin Knolls Road Prompts Emergency Response

The smell was reported in a building lobby, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said.

Firefighters were called to a building in Columbia Friday morning for the smell of smoke, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said.

Crews responded to the 5400 block of Twin Knolls Road in Columbia before 7 a.m. for a smoke smell reported in the building's lobby, the department reported.

Firefighters determined that a broken belt on the heating unit caused the smoke, according to the report.

First responders said they helped residents back into the building before turning the scene over to building management.
