Robbery in Ellicott City, Break-ins in Four Towns: Howard County Crime Roundup

A sampling of crime reported in Columbia and around Howard County.

Ellicott City: Robbery

A woman was getting out of her vehicle on the 8500 block of Harvest View Court when a masked man came up to her and demanded money. The man got away with her money, fleeing on foot toward Route 103, police said. The robbery was reported at 11:26 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

Kings Contrivance: Break-in attempt (with arrests)

Two teenage boys were arrested following an attempted break-in at Love Cleaners and Huntington Deli on the 7600 block of Murray Hill Road. The teens allegedly tried to get inside by breaking a front window but did not enter the businesses.

Arriving officers and K9 units followed a trail and arrested the boys, who are being charged as juveniles and have only been identified as a 15-year-old from Columbia and a 15-year-old from Laurel.

Wilde Lake: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at a home on the 10100 block of Pasture Gate Lane. The suspect or suspects got inside after breaking a glass rear door. The break-in happened sometime between 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6, and 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

Columbia Town Center: Break-in attempt

No entry was gained during an attempted break-in at a residence on the 10600 block of Gramercy Place. The suspect or suspects tried to get inside by prying the front door. The attempted break-in happened sometime between 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, and 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 5. 

Ellicott City: Burglary

A gun, a laptop, a television, a video game system and other electronics were stolen from a home on the 3100 block of Wheaton Way. There were no signs of forced entry. The burglary happened sometime between Saturday, April 30, and 10:32 p.m. on Sunday, May 8.

Ellicott City: Burglary

A computer and a monitor were stolen from the St. John’s Professional Center on the 3300 block of St. John’s Lane. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked window. The burglary happened sometime between 9:45 p.m. on Friday, May 6, and 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 7.

Ellicott City: Break-in

It was not yet known what was stolen following a break-in at a home on the 4700 block of Salterforth Place. A resident woke up after hearing someone inside, then yelled at the suspect, who fled the house. The suspect had gotten inside after kicking in a rear door. The break-in was reported at 1:06 a.m. on Sunday, May 8.

Laurel: Burglary

A laptop, a video game system and video games were taken from a residence on the 9700 block of Promise Court. The suspect or suspects got inside through a rear door. The burglary was reported at 3:23 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

West Friendship: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at the High’s convenience store on the 12700 block of Frederick Road. An ATM and a cigarette storage area were damaged, however. The suspect or suspects got inside after prying a front door. The break-in was reported at 2:04 a.m. on Saturday, May 7.

Columbia: Vehicle theft

A green 1999 Honda Civic with Maryland license plate 858ACY was stolen from the 6000 block of Wild Ginger Court. It was reported stolen at 4:28 p.m. on Friday, May 6.
