Rear Sliders Smashed in Several Break-Ins: Howard County Crime Reports

All information was provided by Howard County Police. Crimes reported between Aug. 18 - Aug. 22.

Columbia

Attempted Robbery

Three young men attacked another man as the man was walking near the 12200 block of Green Meadow Drive around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. The man was talking on a cell phone when he walked by the three men. One of the men threw a basketball at him, hitting his shoulder and yelled something about his cell phone. The victim managed to escape into a nearby apartment building.

Suspicious circumstance

A woman running on the Patuxent Branch Trail had her arm grabbed by an unknown man on Aug. 15 around 6:20 p.m. When the woman pulled away from the man, he fled.

Commercial burglary

Someone cut the lock off a storage container at a construction site near the 6800 block of Benjamin Franklin Blvd. and took 1,050 feet of fire alarm cable, 100 feet of temporary lights and aluminum framing.

Residential burglary

Someone broke into a residence in the 12200 block of Green Shoot Ct. by throwing a lawn chair through a rear glass slider. Once inside, a resident noticed the arm of someone, causing the possible suspect to flee. A police canvass of the neighborhood found that someone had been ringing doorbells at residences prior to the break-in around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 19.

Residential burglary

A lawn care company left a note on a residence in the 12200 block of Bonnett Brim Course with a number saying that "we broke the glass." The company had been mowing lawns in the area. Inside a resident reported an electronic tablet was stolen during the day on Aug. 19.

Residential burglary

Someone entered an open garage in the 1600 block of Glass Tumbler Path and took a GPS from an unlocked vehicle between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 20.

Residential burglary

A resident left a house in the 5300 block of High Wheels Ct. for about an hour on the morning of Aug. 20 and returned to find a rear slider shattered and the master bedroom ransacked. A television, electronic tablet, laptop, clothing and shoes were reported stolen.

Garage bicycle burglary

Someone entered an open garage in the 9500 block of Angelina Cir. and stole a bicycle sometime overnight between Aug. 19 and Aug. 20.

Residential burglary

A rear slider was smashed to gain entry to a residence in the 5200 block of Lightfoot Path. Jewelry, a laptop, and a bottle of liquor were reported stolen on Aug. 20.

Trespassing

A maintenance person found a bicycle, cigarette butts, chewed gum, candles and fire extinguisher powder inside a vacant apartment in the 8800 block of Tamar Dr. 

Residential burglary

Someone smashed a rear sliding glass door at a residence in the 10600 block of Rain Dream Hill sometime on Aug. 21. Jewelry and bags of coins were stolen. A woman said she saw three men knock on the door the day before, and one of them looked under her door mat before leaving.

Commercial burglary

Someone stole cash from a safe at the River Hill Garden Center in the 12100 block of Clarksville Pike on Aug. 21. Police did not locate any forceful entry point.
