Police Officer Hospitalized After Collision

The officer swerved to avoid a deer.

A Howard County Police Officer is in stable condition at a local hospital after an early morning, single-car collision, according to the police department.

Officer James Patrick Flynn was driving northbound on MD Route 29 near Seneca Drive at about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday when he swerved to avoid a deer, according to a statement from the department.

Flynn’s 2009 Ford Crown Victoria struck a guardrail and overturned, according to the police. Flynn, a 3-year veteran of the department, was taken to Howard County General Hospital with minor injuries and was listed in stable condition as of about 5 a.m. Wednesday.
