Police ID Man, 91, Killed Driving Wrong Way on Route 40

Police said the man was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on Saturday evening.


Police said the man killed in a Saturday collision while driving the wrong way on Route 40 was a 91-year-old Pikesville man.

Police said Joseph Kryszpel was driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 40 near Marriottsville Road in Ellicott City around 6:30 p.m. when he struck a Toyota Camry head-on. Kryszpel was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police identified the driver of the Camry as Nam Hee Choe, 46, of Sykesville. She is currently in stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to police.

Police are investigating the crash to determine what caused the accident. Police did not provide any reasons as to why Kryszpel may have been driving the wrong way on the busy road.
