Pedestrian Struck Friday on Cradlerock Way Remains in Critical Condition

Police did not determine the cause of the collision at the scene and are asking any possible witnesses to come forward.


A 79-year-old pedestrian struck on Friday evening near the Owen Brown Village Center remains in critical condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center Monday, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Police said Yechao Qian, of the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way, was struck by a 2004 Honda Civic traveling westbound on Cradlerock Way as he walked near the intersection of Dockside Lane around 5 p.m. Friday. Police identified the driver of the car as Kelly Lynn Weir, 47, of the 5400 block of Hildebrand Court in Columbia after she remained at the scene. Weir was not injured in the collision, said police.

Police transported Qian to Shock Trauma in critical condition.

Police did not determine a cause of the collision at the scene, but asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call police.

Cradlerock Way near the Owen Brown Village Center was closed for about two hours Friday evening while police investigated the incident.
