Pedestrian in Critical Condition Following Hit and Run in Howard County

Police are seeking the driver whose SUV allegedly hit the man Friday evening on Route 216 in Laurel.

A Howard County man is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening while walking on a highway in Laurel – and police are looking for the person who allegedly drove into the man and then drove away.

The victim, Lawrence Pernell Chinn, 33, of the 9300 block of Cross Timbers Court in Laurel, was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Chinn was walking in the eastbound lanes of Route 216 at Pilgrim Avenue at about 5:43 p.m. when a sport utility vehicle struck him. A passerby saw Chinn lying in the road and called 911.

Police believe the sport utility vehicle is dark gray or charcoal in color and possibly has front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 410-313-2200.
