Opening Statements Made in Stabbing Trial

The trial of Anthony Patrick Parker began Monday in Ellicott City.

The trial for a man charged in a stabbing death in September began yesterday with attorneys for both sides making opening statements in Howard County Circuit Court in Ellicott City.

Anthony Patrick Parker, 53, of Woodlawn, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault in the death the Philip Wise, of no permanent address, stemming from  apartment complex in Harper's Choice in Columbia.

Police said witnesses reported seeing several people in the vicinity of the incident with some fleeing in a silver van.  The vehicle was later found on Columbia Road with blood stains on the fender.

Parker turned himself in to authorities the following day, after Howard County Police issued a warrant for his arrest.

The trial is expected to last four days, according to Wayne Kirwan, spokesperson for the Howard County State's Attorney's Office.
