Olympic Skater Accused of Sex Assault Released From Jail

But Genrich Sretenski was ordered to turn himself in to New York authorities to face felony sex assault charges

A former Olympian skater and coach was released from detention in Howard County but must surrender to New York authorities to face sexual assault charges, Voice of Russia Reports. 

According to his arrest warrant, Genrich Sretenski lives in Clarksville.

The 50-year-old, who competed in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, is listed as a director of the Mid Atlantic Skating School at the in Laurel.

The Essex County, N.Y. District Attorney’s office would not release any information about the charges against Sretenski, but the skater’s lawyer told Voice of Russia that Sretenski faces criminal charges of sexual assault and endangering a child.

He must turn himself into New York authorities within two days, according to Voice.

The felony sex abuse charges stem from an incident last year, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The 50-year-old Russian native is also reportedly facing a $5 million lawsuit for allegedly sexually assaulting a skater that he coached in 2011.
