Man Shot in March Reports Shooting in August: Howard County Crime Reports

Crimes reported in Howard County from Aug. 14 - Aug. 18. All information was provided by Howard County Police.

Columbia

Late reported shooting

A man told police he was shot in March near the rear of Jessup Plaza in the 7100 block of old Waterloo Road, but reported it to police on Aug. 18 after going to a hospital for treatment. The man said two male suspects, both wearing masks, fought with him. As he made his escape he was shot in the arm. At the time, he did not receive medical treatment and instead treated the wound himself. As the wound healed, the man realized the bullet was still in his harm, so he had a relative help him remove it. Once it was removed, he went to the hospital to prevent the wound from becoming infected and reported the incident to police.

Robbery

A man had his cell phone and wallet stolen after being punched in the face by three men that approached him at the rear of the BP Gas Station in the 5400 block of Harpers Farm Road around 3 a.m. on Aug. 18. The man entered the gas station for help after all three suspects fled the scene.

Residential break-in

A maintenance supervisor told police someone broke into a vacant apartment in the 10200 block of Hickory Ridge Rd., smoked a controlled substance in the bathroom and then left sometime around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 16. Nothing was reported damaged or missing.

Residential break-in

Police responded to a residence in the 9300 block of Matador Lane after children in the residence spotted the feet of a man hanging off the bed in a basement room. The children believed they were the only ones home at the time around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. Police reported finding a blanket that was not previously on the bed inside the room, although nothing appeared to have been taken.

Residential burglary

Residents returning home from vacation found the front door of their home in the 10500 block of Jason Lane wide open. Inside, they reported a laptop, an iPod touch, two cell phones and an electronic tablet were stolen sometime between Aug. 9 and Aug. 19. A side window was found broken.

Residential burglary

Jewelry and a laptop were stolen from a residence in the 10500 block of Tolling Clock Way during the evening of Aug. 13 after someone entered through an improperly secured front door.

Elkridge

Commercial burglary

Someone gained entry to the Maryland Recycle Co. in the 5600 block of Furnace Ave. and stole an unknown quantity of copper wire around 1 a.m. on Aug. 15.

Ellicott City

Residential burglary

Someone entered a vacant house in the 13200 block of Folly Quarter Road by kicking in a door. A foot ladder, cabinets, copper wire, an air compressor and a TV were taken from the house sometime between July 16 and Aug. 13.

Countywide Vehicle Thefts

A blue Lexus RX330 was reported stolen in the 9100 block of Bourbon St. around 4 p.m. on Aug. 17.

A Penske truck was reported stolen in the 9100 block of Rumsey Road around 7 p.m. on Aug. 17

A 1993 white Ford Van was reported stolen in the 5600 block of High Tor Hill on Aug. 17.
