Man Shot and Killed Early Thursday Morning in Columbia

Police are investigating the third homicide in less than two weeks in Howard County.

A man was killed after being shot multiple times in the 5200 block of Brook Way, near the Route 29 interchange in Town Center, early Thursday morning in Columbia.

Omar Oliver, 39, was found dead at the scene at about 1:30 a.m. , according to police. Police said they received a 911 call from a family member of Oliver's, who reported hearing arguing and then gun shots outside of his apartment.

Another family member ran outside after the shooting and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived, but Oliver died in a grassy area near the Berkshires apartment building, according to police.

Detectives do not have a suspect or a motive at this time, said police. A traffic stop related to the homicide investigation was made last night around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of MD 175 and Tamar Drive. The subjects in the car were released after it was determined they were not involved in the incident, according to a police spokesperson.

Police are asking anyone who may have heard or seen something near the Berkshire apartments around the time of the shooting to call police.

The homicide is the third in less than two weeks in Howard County. On May 4, 47-year-old Deborah Castellano was found shot to death near the Oakland Mills Village Center. Police arrested her ex-boyfriend, Ryan Matthias, in North Carolina on May 11, he is set to be extradited to Maryland to face charges in Castellano's murder. 

In the early morning of May 10, local blogger and real estate agent Dennis Lane was found stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home. Lane's daughter Morgan Arnold, 14, and her boyfriend, Jason Bulmer, 19, currently face murder charges in his death.

In 2012, there were a total of four homicides in Howard County
