Update: Early Morning Collision Kills Columbia Teen, Three Injured

A Columbia teenager was killed in a 3 a.m. collision on Thursday night, alcohol may have been involved.

Update - 2:15 p.m. - A spokesperson for the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center said Obafami Ilupeju is in critical condition and Tres Jones and Dontrell Milner are both in serious condition. All three were passengers in the vehicle when the collision occurred.

A Columbia teenager was killed in a 3 a.m. Thursday collision on Columbia Road when the 2003 Audi A6 he was driving left the road and struck a tree, according to police.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor. Police reported three other passengers were in serious condition after the accident.

Shaquan Jamal Curtis, 17, of the 5300 block of Harpers Farm Road in Columbia, was killed due to injuries sustained in the collision, according to police. Obafami Oyeniyi Ilupeju, 21, Tres Quante Jones, 20, and Dontrell Milner, 20, were seriously injured in the collision and brought to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The addresses of the passengeres were not immediately available Thursday morning, according to police.

Police said excessive speed is believed to be the primary cause of the accident, but they said they are also investigating the possibility that alcohol may have been a factor.

The accident occurred on Columbia Road near Tarkington Place, according to police. Columbia Road was closed to thru traffic until 6:15 a.m. while the investigation and clean-up took place, said police.

Howard County Public Schools reported Curtis was not a student at one of their schools.
