Jewelry Store Robbery Fail: Howard County Crime Roundup

Columbia 

Commercial burglary

Someone used the roof as an entrance to J & D Jewelry, in the 6600 block of Dobbin Road, sometime between about 6 p.m. July 25 and 9:50 a.m. the next day. Police say the burglar left through the front door. The burglar tried to drill into the safe, but failed to open it. Nothing was reported stolen.

Someone used a bicycle to reach an open window on the second floor of a home in the 5400 block of Eliots Oak Road on July 26 between noon and 2 p.m. The burglar climbed through the window; a gaming system, headphones and an iPad were reported stolen.

A burglary was reported late, on July 28. Police say someone entered a home in the 5000 block of Eliots Oak Road by shattering a back door. A television, gaming system, e-reader, backpack and black hat were reported stolen. The television was later found in a nearby wooded area.

Clarksville 

Commercial burglary

Someone cut a chain and tried to pry open the doors at the River Hill Pool, in the 6300 block of Trotter Road, sometime between the night of July 25 and 7:30 a.m. the next morning. The burglar was able to pry down a security window and enter the concession stand opening a cash register - which was empty. Nothing was reported stolen.

Laurel

Residential burglary 

A woman reported that someone entered the front door of her home in the unit block of Alma Avenue on July 27 at about 4 p.m. She told police the front door was locked. Police found no pry marks on the door but they did find the home had been ransacked. A television was reported stolen.

Mt. Airy

Commercial burglary 

Someone broke into the West Howard Swim Club, in the 16100 block of Old Frederick Road on July 27 at 5 p.m. The burglar broke the concession stand padlock and cut the screen door. Nothing was reported stolen. 

Highland

Commercial burglary

Someone pried open the door to a snowball stand in the 12200 block of Route 108 sometime between the morning of July 25 and 11:45 a.m. the next day. The burglar searched the stand for money, partially pulling the safe out. Nothing was reported stolen.

Sykesville

Residential burglary

Someone broke into an attached garage of a vacant home in the 800 block of Windy Knoll sometime between July 6 and July 27. The burglar entered through an unlocked, roll-top door. A riding mower and battery charger were reported stolen. 

Vehicle thefts

A 2013, white Chevy Silverado with the MD 2MJ195 or WV 13-72351 was stolen from the 6800 block of Happy Heart Lane on July 26 at about 9:30 p.m.

A 2002, white Honda Accord was stolen from the 9100 block of Commerce Center Drive on July 28 at about 10 p.m.
