Jessup Teen Killed in Stolen Motorcycle Crash

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, which involved a vehicle from Columbia.

A 17-year-old from Jessup died Saturday night when the motorcycle he was driving—which was reported stolen from Columbia—hit an SUV near Laurel Park, according to police.

The teen, whose identity police have not released, was pronounced dead at the intersection of MD Route 198 and Race Track Road, police said.

Officials said the teen lived in the 7800 block of Old Jessup Road and was driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle reported stolen from the 9600 block of Hingston Downs in Columbia when he crashed into an Isuzu Rodeo at approximately 10:39 p.m.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Jessup teen and another motorcyclist, who left the scene, were headed west on Route 198 from Brock Bridge Road when the Kawasaki hit the side of the Rodeo, which was making a left turn onto Race Track Road, according to police.

The 17-year-old was ejected from the motorcycle, while the SUV went through the intersection and came to rest on Race Track Road, according to the report.

The driver of the Rodeo, a 53-year-old man from Laurel, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

The Jessup teen was pronounced dead, while the other motorcyclist left the scene without stopping, police said.

Excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, police said.
