A Silver Spring man was fatally struck by a Howard County school bus at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Montgomery County police

Elia Miranski, 91, was in the crosswalk of Columbia Pike/US 29 when he was hit, according to police. Miranski was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, police said.

The school bus was filled with 14 students from Hammond Middle School who were returning from a visit to the White House, according to NBC Washington.

Neither the students nor driver was hurt, according to police.

The driver of the bus was Lori Jean Latimer, 52, of the 6600 block of Deep Run Parkway in Elkridge, according to officials.

Police shut down the roadway where the incident took place—northbound Columbia Pike at Tech Road in Silver Spring—to investigate, and officials said they were continuing to research the sequence of traffic signals.

A crisis team from Howard County notified parents and met with students upon their return, according to WTOP.
