Police searching for a man they say attempted to rob a woman in an ATM vestibule Oct. 10.

Howard County police have released photographs of a man they say tried to rob a mother at an ATM but was apparently fooled when the woman told him police had arrived.

The woman told police she and her 4-year-old daughter were in the Bank of America ATM vestibule in the 9200 block of Old Annapolis Road at about 1 p.m. Oct. 10 when she was approached by a man carrying a weapon and demanding money, police said.

After a cab pulled up to the bank, the woman pointed to it and told the man that police had arrived, officials said.
