'Heavy' House Fire Injures Two, Kills Dog in Columbia

Two adults were injured and a family dog died in a house fire in Columbia Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

The house at the 6100 block of Forty Winks Way will be declared uninhabitable as a result of the fire, which began at 4:45 a.m., according to a release. Neighbors will help the family with housing.

The first fire officials to arrive at the home reported “heavy fire” coming from the front side of the split-level home. Firefighters rescued one person from the home; two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials are investigating the cause. No damage estimates were available Wednesday morning.
