Groups of Men Rob Wallets, Cell Phone in Columbia: Howard County Crime Roundup

Police say a fashionista stole designer items from a home, and other crimes as reported by the Howard County Police Department.

Columbia

Robbery

Police say two people were walking across a parking lot in the 6100 block of Old Dobbin Lane on July 6 at about 11:40 p.m. when a group of seven to 10 males encircled them. The men, one of whom was riding a BMX bike, asked the two for cigarettes.

One of the suspects punched one of victims; then both victims ran from the area. The group chased them, according to police. One of them fell and was punched. One of the robbers reached into the victim’s pocket, taking a wallet. Police say the victims and robbers ran off in different directions.

A male told a police officer that he had been robbed by 8 – 10 men on July 6 while in the 6000 block of Old Dobbin Lane at about 11 p.m. He said he had been riding on his mountain bike when he was pulled off of it by a group and held in a bear hug. He told police the robbers took his wallet, cell phone and bike. He was then chased by the robber who took his bike, but the victim was able to get away.

Residential burglary/ attempt

A man arrived home to find someone trying to open his balcony screen door. One person fled when the man opened his blinds, but the man observed a female jump from the balcony around 10 p.m. on July 3. Police said charges are pending in the case.

Residential burglary

A resident of the 8700 block of Airybrink Lane woke up around 3:20 p.m. on July 4 to find an unknown man standing in his residence. The unknown man fled, but the resident found cash missing from his wallet. The suspect was described by police as a black male, 28-30 years old, 6-feet, with a muscular build and very short braids, wearing a black jacket and black pants.

A resident of the 5500 block of April Journey found that sometime between July 4 at about 11 p.m. and 10:40 a.m. the next day, the garage remote went missing from her vehicle. She also noted the garage door was open and there was an unsmoked cigarette on the ground. She may have left the vehicle unlocked.

A resident of the 8700 block of Airybrink Lane woke up to a noise in her home on July 6 at about 1 a.m. The resident yelled, then heard the burglar leave her home. There were no signs of forced entry. A television was reported stolen.

Commercial burglary

Someone entered an unlocked door at Mother Nature’s in the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road and stole cash from the register overnight between July 2 - 3.

Someone used a rock to break a window at Running Brook Elementary School, in the 5200 block of West Running Brook Road sometime between July 3 and July 5. Nothing was reported stolen or moved.

Four checks were stolen from an office used for storage at the Eisenberg Law Firm in the 10600 block of Little Patuxent Parkway between 9:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on June 28.

Elkridge

Residential burglary

Someone broke the glass to a back door at a home in the 7200 block of Montgomery Road on July 5, sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. The burglar climbed inside the door; designer handbags and jewelry were reported missing.

North Laurel

Residential burglary

Someone pried open a rear basement door in the 10500 block of Hunters Way, ransacked the master bedroom and stole cash, jewelry and a camera sometime during the day on July 3.

A resident in the 9300 block of Steeple Court noticed at 8 a.m. that the garage door opener was missing from the vehicle parked out front. The garage door was partially opened. The burglar did not try to enter the home and nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.

Bike theft

Two bikes were stolen from two different sheds in the 9200 block of Livery Lane sometime overnight on July 3 - 4.

Commercial burglary

Someone stole cash from an unlocked file cabinet after gaining entry to Shears Hair Salon in the 9300 block of Whiskey Bottom Road through a locked side door sometime between July 1 - 2.

Jessup

Commercial burglary

Someone entered Chaney Enterprises, in the 7900 block of Old Jessup Road, on July 7 through the surrounding fencing. A truck window was broken, but nothing was reported stolen.

Ellicott City

Commercial burglary

On July 6 at about 8 30 p.m., a security guard making the rounds at Pettite Cellars, in the 11000 block of Resort Road saw that the front door to the furniture business looked like it had been forced open. Police do not know if anything was stolen.

Countywide vehicle thefts/attempted thefts

A 2010 Honda Accord was reported stolen overnight on July 4 from the 9500 block of Donnan Castle Ct.

A read 2006 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the 6500 block of Fruitgift Pl. sometime between July 1 - 3.

A 2010 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen on July 3 around 2 a.m. in the 8200 block of Cool Creek.

A silver 2012 Toyota Corolla was reported stolen from the 8300 block of Air Court on July 7 at about 6:30 a.m.

A Hyundai Santa Fe was reported stolen from the 9700 block of Early Spring Way on July 7 at about 8 a.m.

Someone tried to steal a motorcycle from the 9100 block of Hitching Post Lane on July 7 at about 6:45 a.m.

Someone tried to steal a blue Nissan Altima from the 8500 block of Black Star Circle on July 7 at about 11:46 a.m.

A white Acura TL, with the tags: MD 4E2018 was reported stolen from the 770 block of Mayfair Circle on July 6 at about 9:30 a.m.

A silver 1997 Honda Civic with the tags: MDENS143 was reported stolen from the 6600 block of Forest Shade Trail on July 6 at about 9 a.m.

A silver 1998 Buick LeSabre was reported stolen from the 8400 block of Oak Bush Terrace on July 6 at about 10:20 p.m.

A GMC Acadia was reported stolen from the 3800 block of Ten Oaks on July 8 at about 4:30 a.m.
