Grand Jury Indicts Second Earth Treks Coach

A Howard County grand jury indictment includes four new charges against Daniel Montague, one of two former Earth Treks coaches whom Howard County police accused of engaging in sex acts with minor girls.

a former climbing instructor at Earth Treks, was originally charged with four misdemeanor sex offenses against a minor.

The new charges add four more misdemeanor counts of "unnatural or perverted practice," which law enforcement officials say occurred between Montague and a 14-year-old female.

Court records indicate the charges against Montague involved alleged incidents between March 2011 and June 2011.

The minor involved told her mother she had engaged in sex acts with Montague at her home when the mother was out, according to court documents.

A co-worker of Montague’s, Michael J. Lyons, was on charges of sexual assault against a 14-year-old female student.

According to the July indictment, Lyons is charged with sex abuse of a minor, three counts of third-degree sex offenses and sexual solicitation of a minor.

The Earth Treks scandal has rocked the climbing gym community.

Last month, gym president had trained other coaches in appropriate relationships between coaches and athletes.
