Firefighters Extinguish Early Morning Blaze on Little Patuxent Parkway

The early morning fire spread to the exhaust system of the Downtown Columbia building, said firefighters.

Firefighters extinguished an early morning fire in Downtown Columbia that spread through a commercial building's exhaust system.

Firefighters were called to the building in the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway around 6:30 a.m. where they encountered smoke coming from the fourth floor. A fire department spokesperson said the original fire was controlled at its source with a fire extinguisher, but that the fire spread into the exhaust duct system.

Crews worked to put out the fire in the exhaust system in order to make sure it didn't spread throughout the building, according the spokesperson. No firefighters or civilians were injured as a result of the fire.

The spokesperson said investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
