Fire, Rescue Teams Train at Mall in Columbia

Training ensures firefighters and paramedics know the inner workings of the mall in the event of an emergency.

Don't be surprised to see fire trucks and ambulances around The Mall in Columbia this weekend.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said it would be conducting a training on Saturday at the mall on Little Patuxent Parkway.

Training will last from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

First responders regularly train at large venues to make sure they are ready in case of an emergency, like January's triple shooting at the Columbia mall.

In addition to familiarizing themselves with the mall in general, firefighters and paramedics will ensure they know about the fire alarm systems, egress and access points, fire pumps, connections and suppression systems, according to the Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The mall will be open for business as usual, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
