Columbia Man Confronts Burglars; Boys Rob iPod: Howard County Crime Reports

The following crime reports were taken by Howard County Police between Dec. 1 and Dec. 8.


Columbia


Boys take iPod

A boy walking home in the 6500 block of Overheart Lane was approached by five or six other boys who asked him for his iPod. When the boy refused to give up his iPod, one of the other boys grabbed it from him, then walked away. The incident happened around 6 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Possible drug-related robbery

Two people were robbed of a GPS unit, cell phones, cash and keys when they entered a vehicle with an acquaintance who demanded "everything" around 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 7 in the 6000 block of Majors Lane. Police believe the robbery may be drug-related. The suspect was described as a male, about 5-foot-10, with a slim build wearing a scarf and a blue sweater.

Intoxicated man arrested after found sleeping under stairs

A 23-year-old Columbia man who reportedly entered an occupied apartment in the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road around 11 p.m. on Dec. 8 was later located by police sleeping under the stairs in the same apartment complex. Police said he was extremely intoxicated and charged him with burglary and trespassing.

Indecent exposure at Mall in Columbia

Police received a report that a male shopper inside the Mall in Columbia exposed himself to a female in one of the stores around 3 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Homeowner confronts burglars

A man was sleeping at his residence in the 5200 block of Eliots Oak Road when he heard noises and saw a flashlight shining in the hallway. He got up and confronted two men, including one holding a hammer. He told them his home was alarmed and that the police were on their way. At that point, the two intruders fled. Police said the men broke the glass of a rear basement door and climbed through to gain entry. Police described the suspects as follows:
  • A black male about 18 to 20 years old, 6-foot-2, clean cut, short hair, wearing a dark jacket and brown shoes
  • A black male wearing a multi-colored knit hat

Whole Foods construction site burglarized

A leaf blower, air compressor and grease gun were reported stolen from the Whole Food construction site in Downtown Columbia after someone cut a padlock off a storage container between Nov. 25 and Dec. 2.

Three vacuum cleaners stolen from apartment

Three vacuum cleaners and a blu-ray player were reported stolen from an apartment in the 8600 block of Cobblefield Drive sometime between Nov. 24 and Dec. 2.

Subway first aid kit stolen

Someone smashed the front door glass at the Subway int he 7100 block of Minstrel Way and stole a first aid kit around 2:45 a.m. on Dec. 5. Police described the suspect as a heavyset man, wearing a face mask and a gray hoodie.

House ransacked, alcohol and electronics stolen

Someone stole jewelry, alcohol and electronics from a residence in the 8300 block of Tamar Drive between Dec. 7 - 8. Police found evidence of ransacking and it appeared a rear door was pried open.

Prescription pills pilfered

An iPhone and prescription pills were stolen from a residence in the 8400 block of Braddock Way after someone made entry by prying open a rear window between 6 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. on Dec. 3.

Spray paint stolen

Two pairs of bolt cutters and a large amount of spray paint were stolen from a maintenance shed in the 7900 block of Dorsey Run Road on the evening of Nov. 29.

Edible Arrangements picked

Someone picked the lock on the front door of Edible Arrangements in the 3300 block of St. Johns Lane overnight on Dec. 6 - 7, but nothing was reported stolen.

Car's airbag stolen in driveway

A driver's side airbag was stolen from a car parked in a driveway in the 10200 block of Tarpley Court overnight on Dec. 2 - 3.

Vacant warehouse burglarized

Someone entered a vacant warehouse in the 9000 block of Junction Drive sometime in the past year and stole approximately 3,000 feet of copper wire. Police didn't locate any signs of forced entry.

Three televisions stolen

Sometime between Dec. 2 and Dec. 6 three televisions, a computer and jewelry were stolen from a residence in the 14800 block of Old Frederick Road. Entry was made to the residence by prying open a first floor slider. A neighbor reported seeing two men outside the garage. Police described the suspects as two men, about 6-foot, wearing Carhart type work jackets.

Airbag stolen

Someone entered a car parked in a driveway in the 10400 block of Petersboro Road and stole the driver's side airbag overnight on Dec. 2 - 3.

Crossbow stolen

A resident reported someone entered an attached garage and stole a crossbow in the 7200 block of Abbey Road on Dec. 4.

Construction site copper burglary

Copper piping was stolen from a construction site in the 7500 block of Hearthside Way sometime between Dec. 1 and Dec. 3.

Rear door burglary entry

Someone pried open the back door to a residence in the 5400 block of Landing Road and stole electronics and jewelry sometime during the day on Dec. 3. 

Mt. Airy


Handgun stolen

A handgun was reported stolen from a residence in the 10600 block of Long Corner Road in the early morning of Dec. 5. Police didn't locate any signs of forced entry, but are investigating the incident.
