Columbia Checkpoint Takes Four Off the Road

Howard County and Maryland State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Columbia late Saturday.

Police said they arrested two drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol during a scheduled sobriety checkpoint in Columbia from Saturday night into early Sunday.

Officers from Howard County and Maryland State Police set up a checkpoint on eastbound MD 175 at Columbia Gateway Drive and observed 858 vehicles, pulling over seven vehicles for further examination, according to Howard County Police Department spokesperson Bryce Buell.

In addition to two DUI arrests, police said one driver was arrested for a drug violation and another was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

HCPD checkpoints are funded in part by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office and are part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign.
