Burglaries All Around; Also, Seven Vehicles Stolen In Columbia: Howard County Crime Roundup

That, and a sampling of other crime reported in Columbia and around Howard County.

Seven vehicles were reported stolen in the past several days in several Columbia neighborhoods, according to the Howard County Police Department.

They are:

  • Hickory Ridge: A dark green Honda Civic with Maryland license plate 7FFP46, stolen from the 11300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.
  • Hickory Ridge: A maroon minivan with Florida license plates, stolen from the 6700 block of Freetown Road between 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.
  • Kings Contrivance: A 2009 CHevy HHR with Maryland license plate 4CZV93 and a 2009 Saturn Outlook with Maryland license plate 25253M6, stolen  from the 7100 block of Willow Brook Way between 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, and 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.
  • Long Reach: A silver 2005 Dodge Voyager with Maryland license plate 4BVW21, reported stolen from the 5700 block of Yellowrose Court at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.
  • Oakland Mills: A Nissan Maxima, stolen from the 9400 block of Merryrest Road between 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, and 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.
  • Owen Brown: A 2001 Ford TK with Maryland license plate 09T810, stolen from the 7000 block of Gentle Shade between 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. 
ELLICOTT CITY: ROBBERY

Two people kicked in a front door of a residence on the 3000 block of North Ridge Road and demanded money. The person inside gave them money, and the suspects then fled in a vehicle described as having a loud muffler.

One suspect was described as 6-feet tall and wearing black gloves and a black ski mask. The other suspect was described as 5-foot-9 and wearing black gloves and a black ski mask.

HARPER'S CHOICE: BURGLARY

Jewelry, digital cameras, laptops and a gun were stolen from a house on the 5300 block of Mad River Lane. A sliding glass door had been left unlocked. The burglary happened sometime between 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, and 11 a.m. that same day.

WILDE LAKE: BURGLARY

A computer, a digital camera and a jewelry box were stolen from a residence on the 10500 block of Rivulet Row. A front window was broken. The burglary happened sometime between 6:25 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.

WILDE LAKE: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

A window screen was tampered with on the 10400 block of Gray Owl Garth, but no entry was gained. The attempted break-in was reported at 10:39 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

KINGS CONTRIVANCE: BREAK-IN

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in on the 9600 block of Hingston Downs. A front door had been left unlocked. The break-in happened sometime between 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, and 3:37 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

DOBBIN ROAD: BURGLARY

Cash and a television were stolen from on the 6600 block of Dobbin Road. A rear door had been left unlocked. The burglary happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, and 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.

BEAVERBROOK: POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

A resident heard footsteps on the deck of a home on the 5100 block of Durham Road West and saw two people, who promptly ran away. The case might be reclassified as trespassing or "suspicious circumstances," according to police. The incident was reported at 8:05 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20. 

ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

A television was stolen following a burglary – reported late to police – on the 8000 block of Four Quarter Road. A basement door was forced open. The burglary happened sometime between Jan. 14 and Jan. 19.

ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

A television was stolen from a residence on the 5600 block of Lillburn Place. A window has been left unlocked. The burglary happened someitme between 11 a.m. on Jan. 8 and 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.

ELLICOTT CITY: BURGLARY

A laptop was stolen from a residence on the 2800 block of Leaf Shade Drive. The suspect or suspects came in through the front door, though there were no signs of forced entry. The burglary happened sometime between 8:40 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

LAUREL: BURGLARY AND VEHICLE THEFT

A blue 2006 Harley Davison FLHX with Maryland license late "D ABLO" was stolen after a side door was kicked in on a freestanding garage on the 9100 block of Bryant Avenue. The theft happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, and 11 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

LAUREL: BREAK-IN WITH ARREST

A Laurel man was arrested after he allegedly kicked in a garage door on the 9300 block of Morgan's Landing in what police describe as a "domestic-related" incident.

Ronnie M. Clark, 40, of 9837 Farm Pond Road, has been charged with third-degree burglary and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

The incident happened at about 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

LAUREL: BURGLARY ATTEMPT

Nothing was reported stolen following a burglary on the 9600 block of Dapper Town Row, a burglary that ended with the resident returning home in the middle of it. The suspect, who had broken a rear sliding glass door, fled. The suspect is described as wearing black clothing and a black ski mask.

LAUREL: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

The suspect or suspects sought to break a basement window, but no entry was gained into a residence on the 9300 block of Cross Timbers. It happened sometime between 7 a.m. and 12:57 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.

ELKRIDGE: BURGLARY

A television, jewelry and a tote bag were taken from a residence on the 5700 block of Main Street. A front door was left unlocked. The burglary happened sometime between 11:40 a.m. and 2:25 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.

ELKRIDGE: BURGLARY

A cell phone was taken from a residence on the 6900 block of Montgomery Road. A rear door was pried open. The burglary was reported at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.

LAUREL: VEHICLE THEFT

A Hyattsville man was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle from the Carmax dealership on the 8800 block of Freestate Drive.

Beau D. Clemmons, 31, has been charged with attempted motor vehicle theft, theft and malicious destruction of property.

The incident happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.

Updated 4/15/11: Prosecutors declined to pursue a legal case against Clemmons. However, another man – Jeffrey Michael Tinsley, 26, of 5544 Karen Elaine Drive in New Carrollton – has been charged in the case.

The case against Clemmons was dropped in March. A police statement of probable cause noted that on the evening of the incident, two other people had fled the vehicle; only Clemmons remained. "Clemmons was extremely cooperative and advised that he did not know that Tinsley had any criminal intentions."

Tinsley is facing one count each of motor vehicle theft, unauthorized removal of property, theft, and malicious destruction of property. He has a court date scheduled for April 22.

ELLICOTT CITY: VEHICLE THEFT

A silver Hyundai Sonata was stolen from the 3500 block of Courthouse Drive. The vehicle was reported stolen at 1:32 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23.
