Breaks-Ins in Columbia, Ellicott City, Jessup and Marriottsville: Howard County Crime Roundup

A sampling of crime reported in Columbia and around Howard County.

COMPILED FROM THE DAILY POLICE BULLETIN... KINGS CONTRIVANCE: BURGLARY

"Personal items" were stolen following a burglary on the 9500 block of Red Apple Lane. The suspect or suspects entered by unknown means – there were no signs of forced entry –  and vandalized the residence. The burglary happened between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.

OWEN BROWN: BREAK-IN ATTEMPT

Nothing was taken following an attempted break-in on the 6500 block of Fruitgift Place. The suspect or suspects tried to enter by prying a front door but were unable to get inside. The break-in attempt was reported to the police late and was discovered at 11 p.m. on Feb. 23.

DORSEY'S SEARCH / ELLICOTT CITY: BREAK-IN

Police were not certain what was taken following a break-in on the 9500 block of Old Route 108. The suspect or suspects entered by breaking a glass pane on a door, then reaching inside and unlocking the door. The residence was ransacked. The break-in happened sometime between 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.

JESSUP: BURGLARY (WITH ARREST)

A Laurel man was arrested after allegedly cutting copper from air conditioning units on the 8200 block of Patuxent Range Road.

Bernard L. Brown, 52, of 9228 Whiskey Bottom Road, has been charged with one count each of second- and fourth-degree burglary, two counts of malicious destruction of property, and one count of attempted theft, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police say Brown had cutting tools with him when he was arrested. His arrest happened at about 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, March 6.

MARRIOTTSVILLE: BURGLARY

Jewelry was stolen following a burglary on the 700 block of Driver Road. The suspect or suspects entered by kicking in a rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

COLUMBIA, LAUREL: VEHICLE THEFTS

- Columbia: A 1996 Freightliner Tractor with Maryland license plate 658-F52 was stolen from the 9500 block of Gerwig Lane. It was reported stolen at 10:02 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

- Laurel: A Mitsubishi with Maryland license plate MMA367 was stolen from the 9100 block of Bursa Road. It was stolen sometime between Jan. 18 and March 4.

- Laurel: A silver 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was stolen from the unit block of Alma Avenue. It was reported stolen at 11:12 a.m. on Friday, March 4.

- Laurel: A blue Lincoln Navigator was stolen from the 9300 block of Canterbury Riding. It was reported stolen at 3:26 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
