Break-ins in Columbia, Elkridge, Ellicott City, Woodbine: Howard County Crime Roundup

The following information was supplied by the Howard County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Harper’s Choice: Break-in (with arrest)

A Columbia man was arrested Thursday after allegedly breaking into a residence without permission.

Vincent Alexander Schuster, a 53-year-old of 5495 Cedar Lane described in the police bulletin as a “known suspect,” has been charged with third- and fourth-degree burglary, trespassing and theft, police said.

The incident happened on the 5400 block of Cedar Lane between 12:01 a.m. and 9 a.m. on July 9. 

Hickory Ridge: Burglary

Jewelry and cash were stolen from a residence on the 5900 block of Cedar Fern Court. The suspect or suspects also moved around (but did not take) a television, a video game system and a projector. The suspect or suspects got inside after forcing open a basement door. The burglary happened sometime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, June 13.

Hickory Ridge: Burglary (with arrests)

A juvenile was arrested (and charges are pending for a second juvenile) following a burglary at a residence on the 11700 block of Stonegate Lane. One bullet was stolen from the home. The suspects got inside after breaking a rear sliding glass door. The burglary was reported on Thursday, June 9.

Long Reach: Break-in attempt

No entry was made during an attempted break-in at a residence on the 9000 block of Queen Maria Court. The suspect or suspects tried to get inside by breaking a glass panel next to a door. The attempted break-in happened sometime between 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10, and 2 a.m. on Monday, June 13.

Oakland Mills Road area: Burglary 

Two video game systems, a laptop, a radio and two bags were stolen from a residence on the 6400 block of Fairmead Lane. The suspect or suspects got inside after breaking a window. The burglary was reported at 10:20 p.m. on Monday, June 13.

Oakland Mills: Break-in

A “known suspect” knocked on the door of a residence on the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road. When the resident did not answer, the suspect broke a window, went inside and confronted the resident. The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived. The break-in was reported at 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Columbia Palace Plaza: Burglary

Cash was stolen following a burglary at Tino’s Italian Bistro on the 8700 block of Centre Park Drive. The suspect or suspecs got inside after breaking a glass front door. The burglary was reported at 4:50 a.m. on Monday, June 13. 

Ellicott City: Break-in attempt

A resident saw a suspect or suspects in a driveway on the 4400 block of Ilchester Road. The suspect or suspects fled in a vehicle after being seen, hitting a rock pillar in the driveway on the way out. Police say an exterior camera and light sensor had been tampered with. No description of the vehicle was available. The attempted break-in was reported at 12:38 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Elkridge: Burglary

A video game system was stolen from a residence on the 8000 block of Paul Martin Drive. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 12.

Woodbine: Break-in

A suspect was seen inside a home on the 14900 block of Old Frederick Road after getting inside through a kitchen window. A resident heard noise and saw the suspect leaving through the front door. The break-in was reported at 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, June 12.

The suspect was described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, 5-foot-10, with an average build, short hair and facial hair, and wearing a red collared shirt and baggy brown shorts.

Laurel: Vehicle theft

A 2010 Jonway Agility moped was stolen from the 9200 block of Canterbury Riding. It was stolen sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, and 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13.
