Break-ins in Columbia, Cooksville, Ellicott City, Jessup: Howard County Crime Roundup

Hickory Ridge: Burglary

A laptop and a video game system were taken from a home on the 10400 block of Sternwheel Place. The suspect or suspects got inside via an unlocked front door. The burglary was reported at 8:50 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

Kings Contrivance: Break-in

A resident woke up early Sunday morning and discovered someone inside a home on the 10100 block of Wesleigh Drive. The suspect, who had gotten inside through an unlocked front door, fled after being seen. The suspect was described as a male of unknown race, 6-feet tall, with a medium build and wearing dark clothing. The break-in was reported at 4:21 a.m. on May 22.

Oakland Mills: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at a home on the 9400 block of Catfeet Court. The suspect or suspect got inside after breaking a rear window and, once inside, opened a jewelry box. The break-in happened sometime between 3 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

Ellicott City: Burglary

Cash was stolen from Nail Care and Hair Spa on the 5700 block of Richards Valley Road. The suspect or suspects got inside after breaking a glass rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.

Jessup: Break-in (with arrest)

A 22-year-old man was arrested after allegedly being found sleeping inside an abandoned home on the 7300 block of Cedar Avenue.

Nicholas J. Earnest, of no fixed address, has been charged with one count each of third- and fourth-degree burglary, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police say he got inside the home after breaking a window. The break-in was reported at about 9:54 p.m. on Sunday, May 22.

Cooksville: Break-in

Nothing was reported stolen following a break-in at a home on the 13900 block of Monticello Drive. The suspect or suspects got inside through a rear door. The break-in was reported at 6:25 p.m. on Friday, May 20.

Columbia, Elkridge: Vehicle thefts 

- Columbia: A gray 2008 Toyota Avalon with Maryland license plate 9EGT91 was stolen from the 8800 block of Tamar Drive. It was reported stolen at 10:17 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.

- Columbia: A stolen white 2003 Dodge Van was recovered at an intersection of Governor Warfield Parkway and Little Patuxent Parkway. A 16-year-old male was arrested and charged as a juvenile.

- Elkridge: A red and silver 2004 Bronc Scooter was stolen from the 5800 block of Hunt Hill Drive. It was reported stolen at 7:55 a.m. on Friday, May 20.

- Elkridge: A trailer was stolen from the 7300 block of Washington Boulevard. It was reported stolen at 8:01 a.m. on Monday, May 23.
