Apartment Fire in Savage Displaces Three Families

Nobody was injured, but the Friday evening blaze left property damage in its wake.

Three families were displaced after fire broke out in River Island Apartments in Savage. Nobody was injured and the apartment complex is finding other units where the families can stay, said officials.

At 11:45 p.m., firefighters from Howard and Prince George’s counties arrived at the apartment complex on 8919 River Island Drive to find a small fire on the top floor, according to Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue.

The fire began on the balcony and traveled inside one apartment to the roof, Cutler said.
