Apartment Fire Displaces 14 Saturday Night in Columbia

The fire spread quickly through an apartment building near Cedar Lane Park Saturday night.


A fire at an apartment building near Cedar Lane Park displaced at least 14 people after consuming multiple apartments Saturday night.

Howard County firefighters responded to the scene near the 5200 block of Rivendell Lane around 10 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a call for a third floor fire. Inside, firefighters encountered a heavy fire that was spreading in the attic and towards an adjacent building, according to a department spokesperson.

After about 35 minutes the fire was under control and later extinguished, said firefighters. There were no reported  injuries to residents or firefighters. Firefighters did not immediately have damage estimates.

The 14 residents that were displaced in the fire are being assisted by Red Cross, said the spokesperson. Other residents of the apartment may have been displaced, but were not at home at the time of the fire, according to firefighters.
