5 Sheep Perish in Glenelg Barn Fire

Crews from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services worked to extinguish smoldering hay bales Sunday afternoon.

A barn fire drew first responders to the 1500 block of Roxbury Road at approximately noon Sunday, where five sheep did not make it out, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

There were no other injuries, the department reported.

The fire was contained to barn and mostly involved bales of hay, according to the report.

Crews removed hay bales and used equipment including a excavator from the Howard County Department of Public Works and two cisterns filled with water to get the job done, the report stated.

Officials said the fire was under control after 5 p.m. and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
