NFL Champ DeCarlo, 82: Howard County Death Notices

Arthur "Art" DeCarlo, Sr., 82, a former NFL player and Ellicott City resident who played defensive back for the 1958 and 1959 Baltimore Colts championship teams died on Dec. 21 from complications associated with dementia. DeCarlo attended the University of Georgia, where he was selected to the college's all-time football team in 1976. He began his NFL career with the Pittsburg Steelers in 1954, the served two years in the Army, met his wife Mary, then returned to the NFL in 1957 as a member of the Colts. He played football until his retirement in 1961. Afterwards, DeCarlo coached football at Loyola High School, then built a successful network of putt-putt golf courses, and later served as the national sales manager for Panasonic. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, and his children Arthur A. DeCarlo, Jr., Thomas E. DeCarlo, Linda DeCarlo Bauk, James E. DeCarlo, and Donna DeCarlo Schaaf.

James P. McDonald, of Columbia, died on Dec. 28 of complications from heart bypass surgery. McDonald, 68, is survived by his wife of 38 years Linda St. Thomas and his children, Kim Houston, Andrew McDonald and Tim McDonald.

Kenneth R. Gebhart, the husband of Nancy Gebhart and father of Greg Gebhart, Sara Gebhart Ott, Matthew Gebhart and Alexander Gebhart, died on Dec. 21. He was 68.

Arthur C. Gray, 78, died on Dec. 22. He was husband of Alfreda Gray and the father of Allan Gray.

Mary Katharine Steckman, the wife of William G. Steckman, Jr., and mother of Elizabeth Steckman, William Glenn Steckman, Michael Steckman and Mary Patricia Steckman, died on Dec. 26 at the age of 83.

Mary Jane Tringali, 77, of Selbyville, DE, and a former Ellicott City resident died on Dec. 24. She was the wife of the late Dominic J. Tringali and mother of Tina Marie Tringali Brady, Dominic J. Tringali Jr, Joseph Tringali and Vincent Tringali.

Florence Ayers Brown, 87, died on Dec. 27.

Lena K. Winstead, wife of the late Richard McClung and mother of Michael Winstead and the late Royce Winstead died on Dec. 31 at the age of 92.

Elizabeth D. Bergman, 73, died on Dec. 22. She was the wife of Harold Bergman, Sr., and mother of Harold Bergman, Jr., Mary Bergman Audrey Bisset, Ruth Protokowicz and the late James Bergman.
Charles Knapp, of Ellicott City, died on Dec. 24 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife Patricia Knapp.

Carol Ann Rusk, 79, died on Dec. 22. She was the wife of the late Hubert L. Rusk and mother of Pamela Alford, Terri Case, Traci Rusk-Williams, and Nancy M. Rusk.

Barbara Jean Wovas, of Baltimore, died on Dec. 15 at the age of 72.

Evelyn H. Carey, 101, died on Dec. 17.
