Photos from Early Fourth of July Celebrations in Columbia

Check out scenes from early Independence Day celebrations in Columbia.

Patch pulled these photos of past celebrations of the Fourth of July at Columbia's Lakefront from the Columbia Archives.

The holiday may have been first celebrated in Columbia in 1966, because a flyer from the second annual Howard County July 4 celebration on Little Patuxent Parkway was dated in 1967.

Editor's Note: An original version of this story stated the holiday was first celebrated in Columbia in 1966, because a flyer from 1967 is titled "Howard County's Second Annual July Fourth Celebration", but direct evidence proving this is not available. The story has been changed.
