Columbia Celebrates Fourth of July with Fireworks, Festivities

See the full schedule of events, including music, puppets and fireworks show.

The Columbia lakefront will be glowing on July 4 during Howard County's annual fireworks display.

The fireworks start at dusk on Friday, July 4; Little Patuxent Parkway will be closed for the fireworks at approximately 7 p.m.

In addition to the fireworks, there will be activities around the lakefront to celebrate the holiday. Activities take place from 5 to 10 p.m.

  • From 5 to 8 p.m., there will be "crazy hair" and body art activities for kids.
  • From 5 to 5:45 p.m., the Beale Street Puppets will perform.
  • From 6 to 6:45 p.m. and 8 to 8:45 p.m., Wes Holly will entertain kids with juggling and puppets.
  • From 7 to 7:45 p.m., the Kinderman will entertain children with interactive song, dance routine.
  • From 7 to 9:15 p.m., Capital Style will perform pop/rock and take requests.

Know Before You Go

Parking is available near the Columbia mall and Union Jacks, 10400 Little Patuxent Parkway. Some lots near the lakefront will be closed; see the map for details.

No boats are allowed on the lake from July 3 to 5.

Traffic alert! Little Patuxent Parkway will be closed at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and will not reopen until the fireworks conclude.

Want to put blankets or sheets down for the fireworks? You can reserve your spot starting at 8 a.m. on Friday. People with tarps can put them down starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.
