Columbia Native Joey Gay Remembered on Monday Night Football

ESPN aired a heartwarming tribute to Josephine Gay, 7, a Columbia native who was killed last year in the Newtown school shooting.

The 5-minute video played shortly before the Baltimore Ravens took on the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

Gay, a Ravens fan, was remembered for her love of the color purple. She was autistic and couldn't speak, her parents said, but had an infectious spirit.

Since her death, Gay's family has raised $200,000 for Joey's Fund, a charity that helps autistic kids.

"A lot of good has come from the evil that happened that day, a lot of good," said Bob Gay, Josephine's father.

Born in Columbia, Gay moved to Connecticut in 2008. Her mother previously taught as an elementary school teacher at Hollifield Station Elementary School in Ellicott City, according to the Baltimore Sun.
