Camden Yards Ranked Tops for Hot Dogs

'Blog About a Dog' gave Orioles ballpark franks a perfect score.

Baltimore can add one more item to its list of bragging rights—best ballpark hot dog.

An Oklahoma man searching for the best hot dog and ballpark in America said his experience at an Orioles game this week earned Camden Yards the first perfect score in his multi-month quest.

Tom Lohr, of Tulsa, is rating hot dog components as well as the fan experience at 30 baseball stadiums across the country, according to his "Blog About a Dog."

In Baltimore, he described his hot dog bun as "soft" and "fresh." The texture and hot dog itself were "tastier" than competitors', possibly due to the flat-iron grilling technique, Lohr wrote.

Two types of mustard scored extra points for the stadium, along with a variety of offerings (including a crab mac and cheese dog), he said. Lohr also gave props to Camden Yards for providing a tray and dog holder for portability.

Another element the blogger said wowed him was that the chef incorporated sustainable practices. Chef Joshua Distenfeld won the 2013 United Fresh Produce Award in Business and Industry for his use of produce in dishes at Camden Yards.

"A dog goes down easier when you know it is a sustainable treat," Lohr wrote.

Elements like his reduced-price ticket on a Tuesday, the stadium's cleanliness and Camden Yards' baseball-only focus made Lohr conclude the fan experience was one for the books.

On his 11,000-mile journey to find the best dog, he has seven stops left, and Camden Yards was the first perfect score.

"...if you are planning a baseball road trip, Baltimore should be on your list no matter what," Lohr wrote. "...I still have seven parks to check out, but this is going to be a tough park to beat."
