Dining for Students Fundraiser at Hunan Manor

Hunan Manor Restaurant to Donate FOOD, BEVERAGE, WAIT STAFF & LOCATION for 1 Night to Raise Scholarship Money for Silas Craft Collegians

Hunan Manor Restaurant shuts down its regular business at 2 p.m. for one day each year at no cost to Howard Community College and graciously donates the entire restaurant, full wait staff, all food & beverages, as well as 100% of ticket sales, so scholarships will benefit students enrolled in the Silas Craft Collegians Program.

The restaurant, located at 7091 Deepage Drive in Columbia, will do this for the 12th year on Monday, March 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The evening, which is open to the public, draws approximately 400 to 500 of HCC’s most devoted fans who dine at their leisure on a bountiful gourmet Chinese feast – all to support the Silas Craft Collegians. A $40 ticket lets everyone enjoy a continuous feast that fully benefits the Collegians.

A rich tradition, HCC faculty and staff typically offer to pay for HCC student tickets, which are $10, and donate the tickets to the college’s students.

Over the past 11 years, Hunan Manor Restaurant has raised $218,000 in scholarship money for HCC’s Silas Craft Collegians.

Among those who will be attending this year’s feast will be Mrs. Dorothye Craft, the 83 year-old widow of the program’s namesake who meets with the students and sends letters of encouragement during the academic year, and Congressman Elijah Cummings, who offers the Silas Craft Collegians an inspirational message of encouragement.

The Silas Craft Collegians will be on-hand to thank the guests personally and bus tables.

Named after a Howard County civil rights leader and educator, the Silas Craft Collegians Program wraps its arms around multiple cohorts of students whose past academic performances do not reflect their true potential.

Led by professors with boundless compassion, the cohorts of students are guided through a life-changing academic/social experience as bonded learning communities.

Three active cohorts of students (each group at a different stage in their academic and personal development) can be found annually on HCC’s campus through the program.

The second- and third-year cohorts often mentor those entering the first-year cohort. Click here for more details about HCC’s Silas Craft Collegian’s Program.
