Community Corner

UPPER PATUXENT ARCHAEOLOGY GROUP

Everyone welcome!  Our March program features Tracy Jenkins and Stefan Woehlke of the University of Maryland, and is entitled "Free Black Life in the Chesapeake: A Look at the Hill Community of Easton."  The Hill is now believed to be the oldest free black community in the United States.  Both speakers, for the past two years, have been doing archaeological work at the Hill site, which dates from the Late 18th century to the present, as part of an interdisciplinary study of the neighborhood's history. Free event; a short business meeting precedes the program.  The Upper Patuxent Archaeology Group is a non-profit chapter of the Archeological Society of Maryland.  Programs and membership are open to all, regardless of experience.  Website: www.UPArchaeologyGroup.weebly.com.
